ESC is in line with the ambitious objectives of ‘Fit For 55’ package proposals of July 2021. For airplanes, it is unavoidable that the switch from mineral oils to renewable energy will develop at a somewhat slower pace. ESC is open to contribute together with its members in this field. At the same time ESC foresees possibilities to work together with other stakeholders in developing a greener supply chain entering and exiting airports.
Airlines for Europe (A4E) ranked by priority the most relevant proposals for A4E airlines including the reform of the Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) for Aviation Directive, the proposals for the implementation of ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), the Proposal for a Regulation on ensuring a level playing field for sustainable air transport (ReFuelEU Aviation), the review of the Energy Taxation Directive, and to a lesser extent, the proposal for an Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), the Review of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) and the proposal establishing a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM).
