Madrid, 30 October 2019, ESC presented its position on current trends in shipping at the Connecting TEN-T corridors and sustainable MoS in the West Med sea basin event. Jordi Espin, the Maritime Transport Policy Manager of the European Shippers’ Council, explained how these trends would impact shippers in the near future. A lack of capacity, raising volumes, and drivers’ shortage, together with sustainability being a high priority in the transport and logistics sectors, were a few of the mentioned trends.
The event was a joint seminar organised by the European TEN-T Coordinator for Motorways of the Sea, the Mediterranean and the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridors and hosted by the Spanish Ministry of Public Works & Transport and Puertos del Estado (Ports of the State).
The programme focused on the evolution of maritime transport and its impact on the TEN-T network, tools, and technologies to boost environmental protection and to improve connectivity within and outside the EU borders.
