EU marine governance must evolve to meet the goals and objectives established in the European Green Deal. A shift is needed from the current largely fragmented nature of marine governance toward a more cross-cutting and agile arrangement, one that is in sync with wider developments taking place at sea, at shores and on land.

With this joint statement, the signatories would like to reiterate their support for the objectives of the European Green Deal, EU Climate Law and the Paris Agreement. As an important part of the European economy, shipping and the maritime ecosystem at large have a key role to play in achieving those objectives and contributing to ambitious climate action in Europe.

Shippers and carriers met yesterday to talk about the causes and effects of recent supply chain disruption coinciding with the COVID 19 pandemic.

In the ESC Board meeting of October 19th 2021, Roman Stiftner was confirmed as the new president of the European Shippers’ Council. Stiftner takes over the helm of ESC from Denis Choumert, who has chaired the organisation for the last 10 years.
