20 November 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding on coordinated border checks at the Galați-Giurgiulești crossing between Romania and Moldova was signed in Bucharest, paving the way for a faster transit of goods along the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes.
Coordinated checks of goods passing from Moldova to Romania will help increase efficiency at the border crossing, reducing bottlenecks for traffic coming from Moldova and Ukraine. The Commission is advancing efforts on this border crossing to strengthen the Solidarity Lanes and enhance connectivity between Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania.
Galați and Giurgiulești are situated on the Solidarity Lanes’ Danube Corridor – the busiest of the transport routes between Ukraine and the EU.
