30th January 2018, International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport (UIRR) and the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) opened an exhibition in the European Parliament “Intermodal Transport in Europe and North America: What can we learn from each other?” As stated by UIRR President Ralf-Charley Schultze, “the exhibition aims to inform politicians of a solution for longer distance freight transport that offers a path to much desired decarbonisation, significant reduction of pollution, road congestion and accidents. The ongoing amendment of the Combined Transport Directive will offer the opportunity to European Parliamentarians to express their support for intermodality.” The exhibition shows a case study depicting in parallel a concrete intermodal transport chain – how it is done in Europe and how in the USA.
The event was hosted by the Member of European Parliament Wim van de Camp, EPP coordinator in the Transport and Tourism Committee, and inaugurated by Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc and a delegation from the Belgian Ministry of Transport.
