The recent ALIS (Associazione Logistica dell’Intermodalità Sostenibile) General Assembly in Rome, Italy, on 3 December 2024, gathered key stakeholders from the transport and logistics sector, highlighting important developments in sustainability, innovation, workforce development, and international collaboration. ESC, as a key player in advocating for the interests of cargo owners and freight transport users across Europe, was among the participants.
The event featured insights from various government officials, including Vice President of the Lazio Region, Angelilli, who emphasised the importance of regional ports such as Civitavecchia, Pomezia, and Gaeta in boosting Italy’s industrial development. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport outlined initiatives such as Sea Modal Shift and Ferrobonus, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of transport while keeping Italy competitive globally.

The assembly also explored the challenges of reducing transport costs while complying with green policies.
Workforce development was another focal point, with experts discussing the growing need for skilled labour in logistics and transportation management. ESC and other industry leaders emphasised the importance of continuous training to equip workers with the skills necessary for the sector’s digital and technological transformation.
The event also highlighted the role of technological innovation in improving operational efficiency. Discussions focused on the use of digital tools, automation, and intermodal transport solutions to optimise logistics operations and reduce environmental impact.
The future of transport in Italy and Europe relies on collaboration, sustainability, and investment in both infrastructure and workforce development. ESC’s involvement underscored its pivotal role in advocating for the interests of European shippers on the global stage, ensuring that their needs are addressed in an increasingly complex logistics landscape.
