The Regulation on deforestation-free products targets companies trading in cocoa, palm oil, beef, soy, coffee, rubber (as well as derived products, such as leather, chocolate, tyres, or furniture). These companies must ensure that their imported or exported goods do not originate from recently deforested land or have contributed to forest degradation. The Regulation has been in force since June 2023, with its main obligations applying as from the 30th of December 2024.
3 November 2023, 10.30-11.30, ESC is organising a webinar “The EU Regulation on Deforestation Free Products – views from industry and non profit organisations coincide”.
While supporting the intent of the Regulation, industry and NGOs are concerned about the impacts of the Regulation:
• How will the referred regulation impact sustainability?
• How to guarantee the requirements imposed by the Regulation do not hamper the efficiency of business processes?
• How to guarantee a harmonized implementation of the Regulation
• How to avoid trade disruptions and a negative economic impact?
