Given Russia’s continued actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine, the Council renewed the EU’s restrictive measures for a further six months, until January 31, 2025. These sanctions currently consist of a wide range of sectoral measures, including restrictions on trade, finance, technology and dual-use goods, industry, transport, and luxury goods.
They also include a ban on the import or transfer of crude oil transported by sea and certain petroleum products from Russia to the EU, the exclusion of several Russian banks from the SWIFT system and the suspension of activities and licenses of broadcasting in the European Union of several Kremlin-backed disinformation outlets. Specific measures enable the EU to combat sanctions evasion.
