A new EU regulation introduces a single standard for calculating transport emissions, helping shippers make better-informed sustainability decisions.
Companies across Europe can now calculate and compare transport emissions using the same methodology. The new CountEmissionsEU regulation, which entered into force on 1 June, establishes a harmonised framework for measuring greenhouse gas emissions from both freight and passenger transport.
The regulation marks an important step towards greater transparency and consistency in emissions reporting. It also reflects years of advocacy by evofenedex and the European Shippers’ Council (ESC), both of which have long called for a unified European approach.
One Standard for All
Until now, transport operators, logistics service providers and shippers often relied on different methodologies to calculate emissions. This made it difficult to compare performance and complicated efforts to make informed procurement and sustainability decisions.
CountEmissionsEU addresses this challenge by aligning emissions calculations with the international EN ISO 14083 standard. From now on, organisations that publish transport emissions data must use the same methodology, resulting in more reliable and comparable information.
