Eyeing weighing harmonization, shippers plan ahead
Shippers are working with container liner shipping companies to make sure the new rules on the weighing of containers are as workable as possible.
This became clear during the shippers’ forum on container transport, hosted by the European Shippers’ Council (ESC) and the Belgium Shippers’ Council (OTM) in the Port of Antwerp. Nearly sixty attendees from different points in the supply chain and from all over Europe discussed the new regulations last week.
Although shippers feel a Euopean harmonization is needed, many shippers made it clear they will not wait for new rules to be made and are already working with their carriers to define their own processes. During the event many exchanges that were held lots of question were answered, yet many businesses still have some question marks due to lack of regulation known. ESC is therefore in the process of drafting some guidelines for shippers.
